Aquatic Coordinator

Position Summary

Assists the Aquatic Director by providing excellent service to members in a safe, enjoyable, and positive environment that promotes member wellness and engagement in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures.

• Assists in recruiting, training, developing, scheduling, and coordinating personnel and volunteers. Assists in reviewing and evaluating staff performance.
• Schedules lifeguards and ensures all shifts are covered by staff. Fills in as needed.
• Provides leadership to lifeguards, swim instructors and water exercise instructors.
• Ensures the safety of members and program participants.
• Knows, understands, and consistently applies safety rules, policies, and guidelines for the pool and aquatics area.
• Leads energizing, fun, safe, and educational group classes to accomplish the YMCA mission and goals.
• Builds effective relationships with members; helps members connect with each other and the YMCA.
• Assists in establishing new program activities and expanding programs within the community in accordance with the strategic plans.
• 15-20 Hours of direct service (swim lessons, lifeguarding)

• Associates degree in related field preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
• At least two years of experience in the aquatics field is preferred.
• Required certifications:
  Current YMCA Lifeguarding or Red Cross Lifeguarding or equivalent. Typical requirements within 30 days of hire include: completion of:
  Child Abuse Prevention for Supervisory Staff;
  Completion of YMCA program-specific certifications and or trainings where necessary.
• ARC Lifeguard Instructor Certification or equivalent is preferred.

• Ability to conduct classes and activities relating to aquatics.
• Ability to pass the lifeguard physical test.
• Must be able to sit or stand for extended periods and remain alert.
