The Health & Safety Specialist focuses on improving Health and Safety at Star Plus Energy by using their experience to anticipate, recognize, evaluate, and control hazards in the workplace and engage employees in the development of a strong H&S culture. Functions as an expert resource to teams for consistent implementation of company H&S standards and programs, evaluates workplace compliance with regard to local, state and federal regulations, performs jobsite auditing, and conducts incident investigation.

This job is responsible for identifying the clear root cause of safety issues, serving as a control tower to improve accident issues. Conducts inspections and ensures compliance with applicable H&S regulations and standards. Assist the safety and health manager and oversee planning work within the department. This person must possess excellent communication, interpersonal, and technical skills within their field, carry out tasks in the best possible way based on the job description and the superior's instructions, create reports and keep them up to date, and perform any other tasks assigned by the employee's superior that require similar skills and competence.

Roles and Responsibilities
  • Acquire and manage the ISO
    45001 certification process
  • Conduct weekly line walks to ensure H&S practices are being observed and to note any at‑risk behaviors, unsafe conditions, faulty equipment or non‑compliance with any H&S related policies/regulations
  • Manage annual safety trainings
  • Develop and deliver safety trainings to employees
  • Oversee one or more plant‑wide safety and health programs
  • When an emergency issue occurs, report it and work together with relevant personnel to resolve the issue
  • Ensure timely communication of safety issues/concerns to department leadership
  • Participate in incident investigations and track corrective actions
  • Conduct new equipment reviews, mechanical risk assessments and ergonomic risk assessments
  • Conduct new hire orientation, contractor safety and other S&H related training topics
  • Evaluates workplace compliance with regard to local, state and federal regulations
  • Performs jobsite auditing and conducts incident investigation
  • Conducts inspections and ensures compliance with applicable S&H regulations and standards
  • Keeping job descriptions up to date
  • Establish work‑related regulations and standards and keep them up to date
  • Action / Results oriented:

  • Strong knowledge of experience working with OSHA and state/local regulations and requirements
  • Strong presentation skills to clearly articulate: business problems, analytical approaches, potential solutions & recommendations
  • Ability to draw conclusions and make recommendations per team goals
  • Ability to anticipate "what if" scenarios
  • High level of written and verbal communication
  • Self‑motivated: energetic, enjoys working at quick pace
Basic Requirements
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in a similar position, with strong foundation in project management
  • Excellent organizational, written, and oral communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to interface with various levels of employees within all areas of the organization including hourly employees to senior leadership
  • Ability to build effective cross‑functional relationships internally and externally
  • Demonstrated technical problem‑solving ability
  • Goal oriented self‑starter with ability to lead teams
  • Must have a good working knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • Ability to work overtime as required
Preferred Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in chemistry/chemical engineering, fire safety and relevant experience
  • Extensive knowledge in data analytics utilizing MS Excel, MS Access or other database applications
  • Critical thinking and an analytical mindset
  • Demonstrated teamwork and effectiveness in accomplishing goal
