Treatment Plant Operator

Overview

This is the second level in a three level Water Operations series. Incumbents are responsible for operating the leachate treatment plant and related equipment, including testing, checking, cleaning, and controlling chemical levels to assure safe and proper treatment of leachate.

• Perform journey-level operation and maintenance activities at the leachate treatment plant(s).
• Monitor and operate technologically complex plant control systems and process instrumentation.
• Monitor the proper operation of pumps, blowers, chemical equipment, and controls of the treatment plant.
• Compile information for regulatory reports by recording readings and test results.
• Maintain and repair treatment plant facilities and equipment and document and maintain logbooks on service and maintenance activities.
• Conduct laboratory tests and maintain thorough and accurate records of test results.
• Operate a variety of equipment, including belt press, forklift, screens, chemical manufacturing and feed systems, pump stations, computer control systems, and other applicable equipment.
• May serve as a back-up and assist landfill staff as needed in performing Baler Operator activities.
• Perform other duties of a similar nature and level as assigned.

High School Diploma or GED and 2 years of water/wastewater treatment system operations and maintenance experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job as listed above.
