Overview
The recruitment is exempt from the hiring freeze ( Administrative Order 358 ). This recruitment is open to Alaska Residents only. Applicants must meet Alaska Residency requirements in order to be considered for employment at this time.
WHAT YOU WILL BE DOINGThe Administrative Assistant I provides specialized administrative support for the JEA (Joint Enforcement Agreement) program, including the JEA Supervisor, PST II (Public Safety Technician), and Alaska Wildlife Troopers who perform duties within the JEA. This position performs complex clerical functions requiring independence, judgment, and initiative in determining needs, and in prioritizing and organizing work. The position has working knowledge of and understands the policies, procedures, and agreements between the State of Alaska and NOAA/NMFS (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration) (National Marine Fisheries Services) and performs duties that are specialized to the JEA program.

THE WORKING CONDITIONS YOU CAN EXPECTThis position is in Kodiak at the Department of Public Safety Post. The post is cohabitated by the Division of Alaska State Troopers and the Department of Motor Vehicles and includes a large bay garage, kitchen, and conference room. As part of the team, you will be included in handling the full range of administrative tasks, with an opportunity to hone your skills and build your knowledge and competencies in new areas.

- Substantial knowledge of correct business practices, correspondence and typing formats, including English grammar, composition, spelling, and punctuation.
- Entering and retrieving data using a variety of computer systems and spreadsheets.
- Ability to multi-task with frequent interruptions while remaining calm, organized, and accurate.
- Strong computer skills utilizing Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.
- Ability to meet deadlines and keep a positive and outgoing attitude.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCESix months of advanced clerical experience. This experience includes work such as Office Assistant 2, Accounting Clerk, and similar classes with the State of Alaska or the equivalent with another employer.
OR
Six months of any combination of post-secondary education, vocational education, and/or advanced-level clerical experience. (Three semester or four quarter hours of post-secondary education are equal to one month of experience; 150 hours of vocational education are equal to one month of experience.)

- Reviewing complex or questionable applications or documents and searching files and regulations to determine accuracy of information to clarify applicant status; using judgment in applying criteria, rules, regulations, and policies; providing information to organizational unit staff on administrative processes and procedures; tracking expenditures; and completing necessary administrative…
