Join us at Barclays as a Technical Release Manager, where you’ll apply modern engineering practices, automation, and incident‑response techniques to enhance the reliability and performance of our platforms and systems. In this role, you’ll help ensure our technology remains resilient, scalable, and consistently available by driving high‑quality release processes across the organisation.

To be successful as a Technical Release Manager, you should have experience with:

  • Hands‑on experience in Release Management, leading deployments across distributed engineering teams and complex enterprise environments with multiple system dependencies.
  • Deep knowledge of CI/CD pipelines, automation, versioning, and release orchestration, with strong understanding of governance requirements including SIT, UAT, regression, security checks, and controls.
  • Skilled in Agile/SAFe delivery and cross‑team coordination, effectively managing risks, sequencing, and dependencies while partnering with Change and Service Management for approvals and readiness.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder leadership, able to align engineering, operations, and business teams while managing cutovers, timelines, and high‑pressure go/no‑go decisions.
  • Operational excellence and continuous improvement mindset, with experience running structured production releases, troubleshooting real‑time blockers, and driving retrospectives to improve flow and reduce friction.

Some other highly valued skills may include:

  • Strong technical depth with knowledge of AWS cloud services, container platforms such as Kubernetes/EKS/ECS, and modern observability and automation tooling.
  • Certified in key industry frameworks, ideally including SAFe (RTE/Release Manager), AWS Cloud certifications, and ITIL Foundation or above.
  • Experience operating in regulated or highly governed environments, such as banking or payments, with exposure to platform engineering, data engineering, or AI/ML release cycles.
  • Proven leadership in Agile and Dev Ops practices, with the ability to coach teams and drive alignment across diverse engineering functions.
  • Culture‑focused mindset, fostering collaboration, trust, and continuous improvement within teams and across the wider organisation.

This role is based in Knutsford.

Purpose of the role

To apply software engineering techniques, automation, and best practices in incident response, to ensure the reliability, availability, and scalability of the systems, platforms, and technology through them.

Accountabilities
  • Availability, performance, and scalability of systems and services through proactive monitoring, maintenance, and capacity planning.
  • Resolution, analysis and response to system outages and disruptions, and implement measures to prevent similar incidents from recurring.
  • Development of tools and scripts to automate operational processes, reducing manual workload, increasing efficiency, and improving system resilience.
  • Monitoring and optimisation of system performance and resource usage, identify and address bottlenecks, and implement best practices for performance tuning.
  • Collaboration with development teams to integrate best practices for reliability, scalability, and performance into the software development lifecycle, and work closely with other teams to ensure smooth and efficient operations.
  • Stay informed of industry technology trends and innovations, and actively contribute to the organization's technology communities to foster a culture of technical excellence and growth.
