Overview
The High School Defensive Coach supports the Head Football Coach in the overall leadership and administration of the high school football program. This role focuses on developing and coordinating the defensive unit while mentoring and discipling student-athletes, fostering positive relationships with families, and contributing to practice planning and game-day strategy. The Defensive Coach assists with scheduling, travel coordination, and budget stewardship as directed by the Head Coach.
All responsibilities are carried out in a manner that reflects the highest standards of conduct and upholds CAK’s athletic mission and core values.
Coaching and Program Support
- Provides structured training, discipline, and coaching that cultivates a highly competitive program.
- Evaluates individual student-athletes and develops personalized coaching plans to help each reach their full potential.
- Collaborates with high school and middle school coaches to build continuity and alignment across the program.
- Designs and implements skill development plans using well-organized training and positive reinforcement.
- Communicates proactively with student-athletes and parents/guardians regarding expectations, camps, practices, and game schedules.
- Supervises student-athletes before and after practices and games.
- Oversees all areas of participation, including gyms, fields, arenas, locker rooms, buses, and other facilities.
- Issues and maintains athletic equipment and uniforms, ensuring proper care and timely return.
- Attends all games—home and away—including postseason tournaments.
- Prepares facilities for practices, games, and events.
- Conducts pre-season conditioning and training sessions.
- May be asked to operate a school vehicle for team travel.
- Models Christ-centered leadership and discipleship in all interactions.
- Upholds CAK’s core values and fosters a culture of spiritual growth and accountability.
- Demonstrates maturity, humility, and discernment in decision-making and team leadership.
- Participates in all required professional development and coaching meetings.
- Performs additional duties as assigned by the Head Coach and Athletic Director.
- Exercises discretion and professionalism in all confidential student and family matters.
- Maintains excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Holds current CPR, AED, and First Aid certifications.
- Adheres to all TSSAA rules and regulations.
- Complies fully with CAK policies and procedures.
The Christian Academy of Knoxville (CAK) coach must be a spiritually sensitive individual who understands the school's mission and philosophy. The coach must also be a born-again Christian with spiritual maturity and the academic and leadership abilities necessary to teach God’s truth. Skills in effective communication with diverse individuals, the ability to handle confidential information appropriately, and maintaining a courteous, professional, and respectful attitude and integrity in all situations are prerequisites.
