Aboutthe Role
Provides installation, estimation, and repair services for residential appliances, primarily using natural gas with some electric, within the Knoxville Utilities Board (KUB) service area. The ideal candidate will hold a Limited Licensed Electrician (LLE) license. Evaluates installation requests, calculates loads, designs jobs, and estimates equipment, parts, and labor costs while applying knowledge of electrical fundamentals, tools and equipment, and recognized industry best safety practices and procedures.
Performs electrical work such as outlet installation, panel modifications and upgrades, and GFCI protection in compliance with current National Electrical Code (NEC) requirements. Installs appliances including, but not limited to, water heaters, log sets, and generators, ensuring all work meets applicable codes and manufacturer specifications. Provides excellent customer service by communicating effectively with KUB co-workers and customers and instructing customers on proper appliance operation.
Works safely at all times, including operating and inspecting assigned vehicles and equipment, and may be required to work in crawlspaces and other confined areas. May be exposed to hazards such as asphyxiation, explosions, burns, electrical shock, and falls. After-hours work, including emergency storm response and service restoration, may be required.
Physical Requirements
Requires frequent bending, stooping, and lifting in confined spaces where conditions are cramped and head space is often limited. Works outside most of the time, from a KUB vehicle, on customer property, in customer facilities, in various weather conditions. Frequently requires above normal visual and mental alertness. Must be able to climb steps and work from ladders. May be required to lift, push, or pull up to 80 lbs and work extended hours during emergency situations.
Minimum Requirements- High school diploma or equivalent
- A minimum of two (2) years of formal education, technical school training, or equivalent work experience is required
- Possesses excellent deductive reasoning skills and aptitude in mechanical, electrical, and plumbing problem-solving; experienced using hand tools and testing equipment to troubleshoot, repair, and install natural gas and electric appliances; able to work independently and within a team
- Valid driver’s license

Preferred Requirements- Associate’s degree or technical training in a related field (electrical, mechanical) or the equivalent
- Limited Licensed Electrician (LLE)
- Five (5) years of experience, training, or work in the electrical industry
- Applicable licenses and certifications related to electric and natural gas appliance installation and repair (e.g., Certified Mechanical Contractor (CMC), Certified Mechanical Contractor – Appliance (CMC-A), Certified Electrician (CE), Licensed Limited Plumber (LLP), etc.)
- Extensive experience with piping and wiring, including use of pipe-sizing tables, and training in applicable codes such as the International Fuel Gas Code (IFGC), National Electrical Code (NEC), International Mechanical Code (IMC), and International Plumbing Code (IPC)
- Ability to competently function in departmental support and information technology systems including Mobile Data, Nomad handheld devices, and general PC skills such as Microsoft Office
