Heavy Equipment Mechanic, Maintenance Technician / Mechanic

Position Overview
Applicants must possess the ability to diagnose, adjust, repair, or overhaul mixers, dump trucks, mobile mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic equipment used in construction industries, as well as be familiar with the maintenance and repair of diesel and gasoline engines.
Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)
- Adheres strictly to company safety and Lock-Out-Tag-Out policies.
- May operate a service truck to travel to and from equipment jobsite when performing remote repairs, lubrication and diagnostics in the field.
- Works extended, and at times, erratic hours.
- Adheres to the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations as set forth by the US Department of Transportation.
- Troubleshoot and maintain all types of on road equipment, and periodically reclaim and milling machines, loaders, graders, dozers, pavers, rollers, etc...
- Examines equipment and discusses with Shop Supervisor the nature and extent of damage or malfunction.
- Plans work procedure and/or possible solutions, such as part redesign, substitution of material or parts, or rearrangement of parts or subassemblies.
- Raises equipment, with hydraulic jack, hoist or crane, to gain access to components attached to underside of equipment.
- Removes units or subassemblies, such as engines, transmissions, drums, seals, etc.
- Repairs or replaces parts such as drums, seals, buckets, hydraulic pumps, electric motors, valves, pistons, rods, gears, etc.
- Rebuilds components for engines, transmissions, drive assemblies, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, A/C, air brake, chassis, cab and body. Diagnose and repair equipment electrical systems, including ignition systems, lights, and instrument panel.
- Replaces and adjusts headlights, and installs and repairs accessories, such as radios, heaters, mirrors, and windshield wipers.
- Drains fluids and oil, ensuring proper procedures for containment, sampling and/or disposal.
- Devises, fabricates, and assembles new or modified mechanical components or assemblies for products such as industrial equipment and machinery, power equipment.
- Sets up and conducts tests of complete units and components under operational conditions to investigate design proposals for improving equipment performance or other factors, or to obtain data for development, standardization, and quality control.
Qualifications
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
Education/Experience
- One year certificate from college or technical school preferred; or three to six months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Must maintain current driver's license that meets state requirements
Work Requirements
- Must be 18 years in age or older. Must pass DOT physical, drug screen and criminal background check.
- Motor Vehicle Report must meet company standards.
- Must Display a professional and courteous attitude to co-workers, supervisors, and the general public at all times.
- Must be willing to travel and work away from home when required.
- Must be willing to work nights and weekends when necessary.
- Report to the assigned shop or jobsite ready to begin work at the designated start time.
- Strict adherence to Company safety requirements and procedures
- Willingness to work in a team environment and assist co-workers or supervisors with other duties as required.
- Attendance required according to company attendance policy to ensure crew is able to operate at normal efficiency level.
- Individuals are required to wear personal protective equipment in designated operations and production areas as stated by OSHA, MSHA and/or company policy. Protective equipment that may be required, but not limited to, for this position is:
Face Shield, Safety (hard toe) Shoes, Hard hat and Safety Glasses . - Must own mechanic tools required for work being performed
