The Assistant in Training (AIT) and Assistant Manager position’s primary responsibility is to fulfill our mission statement, “to create the most enjoyable shopping experience possible for our Guests.” The AIT and Assistant Managers perform a variety of sales, merchandising and operational tasks assigned by store management (e.g., cashiering, merchandise display and pulls, register procedures, and routine cleaning of facilities). Work directly with the Store Manager and Leadership Team to develop sales, recruit new Teammates and provide leadership.
The AIT and Assistant Manager will also share responsibility for training and motivating Teammates and act as the Store Manager in their absence. The Assistant Manager position is a progression from the AIT position and includes additional high-level duties that are specific to that position, though the majority of job duties and responsibilities are shared.

SalesGeneration and Guest Service
- Greet Guests with a friendly, engaging attitude, and provide legendary service to each Guest
- Answer questions regarding the store and its merchandise
- Recommend, select, and help locate merchandise based on Guest needs
- Anticipate and fulfill Guest needs by suggesting additional items and creating a wardrobing experience
- Demonstrate product knowledge and sales education, sharing knowledge with the Team
- Maintain and share knowledge of current sales and promotions, policies regarding payment and exchanges, and security practices
- Remain consistent on personal sales; look for opportunities to improve Teammates’ presentations with the Sales Presentation Guide (SPG)
- Achieve personal sales-per-hour, average sale and total net sales goals set by Store Management
- Provide legendary service throughout the store in Front 5, sales floor, fitting rooms, and the register area
- Be knowledgeable of all exchange and return procedures and reflect showmanship opportunities
- Use the SPG daily to accomplish goals
- Meet or exceed performance standards in Buckle business builders and guest loyalty programs
- Expand Guest selection through inventory management and product search tools
- Develop and maintain guest relationships to build a client-based business
- Lead by example with showmanship, customer service, and attentiveness
- Recognize and communicate Guest Levels with the Team
- Ask business-driven questions to Manager, Team Leaders and Teammates; be coachable and open to feedback
- Perform leadership actions consistently, regardless of Manager presence
- Plan sales goals with Store Manager
- Own the store’s sales performance (Sales, Average sale, Business builders, Denim)
- Show passion for product education and showmanship to achieve results
- Recognize recruiting opportunities via Jobs & Careers cards, referrals, and Teammate recommendations
- Coach and build relationships through Guest Loyalty and Guest Preferred
- Develop skills and lead, direct, motivate and educate new Teammates to meet Buckle’s standards daily
- Maintain a positive attitude and floor culture
- Demonstrate personal dress code to encourage fashion
- Participate in daily setup, training, and performance tracking
- Motivate Teammates to complete daily tasks set by Store Management
- Demonstrate denim showmanship and fit card coaching
- Create and develop results in your department; balance all DM actions
- Execute actions from department calendars and track on the Weekly Delegation Worksheet
- Demonstrate leadership actions during segments and involve Guests with product
- Be vocal and keep fellow leaders and Team informed
- Ask for and remember Guest names; understand and show merchandise for both Gals and Guys
