Veterinary Assistant - Knoxville Pet Emergency Clinic
Location: Knoxville, TN
Join our team at Knoxville Pet Emergency Clinic as a full‑time, compassionate and enthusiastic Veterinary Assistant. In this role you will support veterinary technicians and veterinarians in providing exceptional care to animal patients and ensure a positive client experience.
About our Clinic: Overnight and weekend emergency clinic offering the gold standard of medical and surgical care. Pioneering services with in‑house lab, digital radiography and ultrasound. Operates Monday–Thursday 7 pm–7 am, Friday 7 pm, and 24‑hour coverage over the weekend until Monday 7 am.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist veterinary technicians and veterinarians with animal restraint, medication administration, and sample collection.
- Maintain a clean, organized clinic/hospital environment – disinfect surfaces, sanitize equipment, clean kennels and cages.
- Prepare examination rooms for appointments, ensuring they are stocked and organized.
- Greet and assist clients, escorting them and their pets to exam rooms and collecting preliminary information.
- Support medical procedures by setting up equipment, holding animals, and monitoring well‑being.
- Prepare and label laboratory samples accurately.
- Assist with radiography (X‑rays) by positioning animals and operating equipment under direction.
- Educate clients on medication, preventive care, and post‑operative instructions.
- Keep accurate, detailed records of patient care and interactions.
- Manage inventory, restock supplies, and maintain organized storage.
- Participate in maintaining a positive, collaborative team atmosphere.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Previous experience with animals, preferably in a veterinary setting.
- Strong animal handling skills and comfort with various species.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
- Attention to detail and ability to follow directions closely.
- Basic understanding of veterinary medical terminology and procedures.
- Ability to multitask, stay organized, and work effectively in a fast‑paced environment.
- Willingness to learn and take on new responsibilities.
- Physical stamina to lift and carry animals, stand for extended periods, and perform cleaning tasks.
