The Clinical Resource Nurse (CRN) is a clinical teacher for practicing nurses. The purpose of this position is to increase knowledge, competence, and confidence of the nurse during their assigned shift. The CRN will demonstrate expertise in evidence-based practice, critical thinking, communication and professional behavior utilizing principles of adult learning.
Efficiency & Effectiveness
* Identifies and mentors nurses who need direction with patient care prioritizations
* Teaches/demonstrates effective communications skills to include clear articulation of patient's needs, concerns to physician and other care providers
* Utilize all teachable moments at the bedside. (Examples: skill training, patient emergencies, protocols, pathways and TJC)
* Assists in supporting performance recommendation in collaboration with management team
Quality & Safety
* Facilitates learning for clinical nurses in the assessment of patient needs and identification of outcomes
* Mentors and guides emergent events
* Mentors nursing staff on assessment, care planning, evaluation of intervention and impact on patient outcomes
* Reviews patient clinical status, evaluates patient risks, and mitigates any possible adverse outcomes
Essential Functions
* Collaborate with Nursing Supervisor to identify "hotspots" (patients and/or nurses
* Will have knowledge of where the staff nurses with less nursing experience are working
* Carry a pager and cell phone
* Round on each unit obtaining information about patients of concern
* Round on each patient of concern - speak directly with primary RN
* Round on staff nurses with less than 1 year experience to assess their patient acuity and offer mentorship as needed
* Become familiar with nurses with identified learning opportunities
* Respond to all RRTs/Intubation Codes/Code Blues
* Assist the nurse at bedside with difficult IVs
* Round on patients with CVLs/Foleys
* Participates in data collection for nursing initiatives
* Handoff Reports to NM and CNS
Round on patients with sepsis alerts
Position
Qualification:
Education
* Bachelor's Degree in Nursing - Required
* Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) - Preferred
Experience
* 4-10 years of experience as a Registered Nurse in a healthcare/medical setting - Required
* 4 years experience in an ICU setting - Preferred
* Minimum of 5 years of experience in clinical practice, consistent with Benner's competency model - Required
* Equivalent combination of education and related experience/training may be considered.
Licensure, Certification, and Registration
* Registered Nurse (RN) - Required
* Must hold a valid RN license in the state of Tennessee or a
* Multi-State Compact License
* Basic Life Support (BLS) - Required
* Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) - Required
* Stroke Education - Required
Specialty Certification and Cardiac Education - Preferred
