Perinatal Center OverviewAt Fort Sanders Perinatal Center, we’re here for women with pregnancies that require extra care, and we’re ready to help you make the best healthcare decisions from conception through delivery. For more than 25 years, we’ve provided comprehensive high-risk pregnancy services and delivered over 26,000 high-risk babies at Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center. We offer a range of care services for higher-risk pregnancies, including mothers over age 35, multiples, complications, birth defects, issues such as diabetes or hypertension, or pregnancies after infertility.
PositionSummary
Provides perinatal care to patients under the supervision of a physician preceptor, following established medical protocols.

- Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance program and safety standards.
- Provides direct patient care, evaluates outcomes, consults with other specialists as required, and adjusts processes as indicated to ensure optimal patient care.
- Collaborates with physician preceptor to formulate and review medical protocols.
- Obtains complete medical history of the patient.
- Identifies health hazards in the patient's environment, as well as patient risk factors. Identifies and considers the cultural patterns, economic status and patient resources in plan of care.
- Performs appropriate physical exam as indicated.
- Obtains appropriate laboratory specimens.
- Analyzes objective and subjective data for appropriate diagnosis and treatment.
- Assures treatment and/or plan of care is consistent with established protocols.
- Monitors and ensures accuracy of recording on patient medical records and maintains all required reports, records, statistics, etc. Documents all pertinent information accurately, legibly, and in a timely manner.
- Refers patient to appropriate services which exceed scope of practice of the practitioner.
- Provides health promotion counseling and develops patient teaching information.
- Serves as a resource person for other staff personnel. May supervise clinical staff.
- Responsible for periodic review of policy and procedures.
- Maintains professional growth and development through seminars, workshops and professional affiliations to keep abreast of latest trends in field of expertise.
- Attends meetings as required and participates on committees as directed.
- Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.
Minimum Education
None specified; however, must be sufficient to meet the standards for achievement of the below indicated license and/or certification as required by the issuing authority.
Minimum ExperienceNone required.
Licensure RequirementCurrent TN license. Must hold certification as a Women’s Healthcare Nurse Practitioner, a Nurse Midwife or Family Nurse Practitioner. CPR required.
