JOB SUMMARY/

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

The Medical Technical Assistant 1 provides nursing support to Internal Medicine residents and attending physicians. This position helps ensure correct aseptic/sterile procedures are followed and performs invasive procedures as defined by nursing statutes.

Responsibilities
  • Prepares exam and treatment rooms with necessary equipment and supplies.
  • Assists physicians and residents with procedures and patient visits.
  • Obtains vitals and brief health history.
  • Assists with sending lab orders.
  • Administers intramuscular and subcutaneous injections.
  • Enters quality data into electronic medical records and assists with coding and billing.
  • Performs telephone triage according to established protocols.
  • Schedules referrals to specialist as needed.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications Education

High School Diploma or GED. (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED)

Experience

Six (6) months of work experience in a medical office. (Experience as a nurse assistant desired. Knowledge of medical billing preferred. Ability to communicate in Spanish preferred.)

License/Certification

Current licensure as Certified Medical Assistant (CMA), or CCMA in the state of Tennessee required. (COPY OF LICENSE/CERTIFICATION REQUIRED)

Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
  • Ability to communicate both on telephone and in person.
  • Knowledge of different insurance companies and the ability to maintain constant contact with the patient’s primary insurance carrier.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and medical vocabulary.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite required.
  • Ability to effectively prioritize and manage time.
  • Ability to coordinate care for patients, within and outside providers.
