We are seeking an energetic and detail-oriented Unit Clerk to support our healthcare team by managing administrative tasks on the unit. In this vital role, you will facilitate smooth communication, maintain accurate medical records, and ensure efficient clinic operations. Your proactive approach will help create a welcoming environment for patients, visitors, and staff alike.
- Greet patients and visitors with professionalism and courtesy at the front desk, providing excellent patient service.
- Answer multi-line phone systems promptly, directing calls to appropriate staff members while maintaining courteous phone etiquette.
- Manage medical records by filing, retrieving, and updating patient files in compliance with HIPAA regulations and health information management standards.
- Verify insurance information and assist with insurance verification processes using EMR (Electronic Medical Record) systems such as Epic, Meditech, Athenahealth, or eClinical
Works. - Schedule patient appointments accurately using medical scheduling software; coordinate care plans and follow-up appointments efficiently.
- Review documentation for completeness and accuracy, ensuring proper coding with CPT (Current Procedural Terminology), ICD-9/10 (International Classification of Diseases), and ICD coding standards.
- Support medical administrative functions including data entry, filing, and maintaining office supplies to ensure a well-organized clinic environment.
- Prior experience in a medical office or healthcare setting is highly preferred, especially clinic experience .
- Strong computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Knowledge of medical terminology, ICD coding (ICD-9/10), CPT coding, and medical billing procedures.
- Excellent customer service skills with the ability to handle patient inquiries professionally via phone or in person.
- Bilingual abilities are a plus to serve diverse patient populations effectively.
- Demonstrated clerical experience including filing, data entry (10 key typing), and multi-line phone system operation.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA regulations; attention to detail in documentation review is crucial.
