Job Summary

Position may require shift work to support the operations of the Tennessee River system, including rotating day/night shift.

River Management is responsible for scheduling the day-to-day, integrated operations of the Tennessee River system and balancing the competing demands on the system for the overall value to the public.

Duties
  • Using software to model river flow, elevations, and temperatures for operational decisions of TVA’s 49 dams.
  • Continuous monitoring of data and gage systems used to manage the river system.
  • Improving operational performance of facilities and systems by assessing conditions and developing solutions for engineering problems.
  • Developing and refining the hydraulic and physical relationships of reservoirs or other civil systems and could include the development of mathematical models of the systems.
  • Developing, applying and verifying computational models of fluid dynamics, hydraulic and hydrologic, and related processes for the solution of engineering problems.
  • Coordinates the work of and gives advice and assistance to engineering associates, engineering aides, and engineers of lower grades involving daily scheduling activities.
  • Pursues opportunities for professional development and networking by actively participating in professional organizations, such as ASCE, AWRA, TSPE, etc.
Supervision Received

This position fulfills multiple engineering roles within the River Forecast Center. Each role has assigned task and objectives that are completed as part of the modeling of the Tennessee River System. Establishes priorities and guidelines and reviews the results. Supervision is neither close, nor continuous. Completed work is either spot-checked or checked in detail, depending on its difficulty, uniqueness, and purpose.

Hydrologic and hydraulic modeling, HEC RAS, Ability to work independently and as part of a team, Problem solving, Written/oral communication skills, TVA policies, Engineering economy, knowledge of Power Utility Industry, PC applications.

Minimum Qualifications (Consistent With Classification Standard)

A Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or comparable related engineering discipline from an accredited college or university. Master’s degree, EIT certificate or PE License is desirable.

Must have demonstrated proficiency in civil engineering as evidenced by completion of Engineering Graduate Progression Plan or equivalent post engineering graduate education and experience.
