Responsibilities- Contribute to the design and development of multiple manufacturing process areas.
- Lead the design and implementation of assigned process areas, providing guidance and mentorship to junior process engineers. Process areas may include, but are not limited to, ADUN production, organic solution preparation, solution gelation, solvent washing, particle drying, TRISO layer application, graphite matrix fabrication, over coating, fuel core processing, green pebble pressing, compact pressing, shaping, heat treatment, quality control, industrial waste processing, radioactive waste processing, and uranium recovery.
- Develop and implement advanced manufacturing processes to achieve production targets and maintain high-quality standards.
- Create detailed specifications for process equipment and collaborate with equipment suppliers to ensure all critical design requirements are met prior to delivery.
- Work with subcontractors and suppliers to design, fabricate, deliver, and install process equipment.
- Conduct research to develop new or improved manufacturing processes and evaluate or implement new equipment and technologies to enhance efficiency and product quality.
- Establish safe and efficient procedures for handling and processing chemicals and materials in solid, liquid, and gaseous forms.
- Design and plan equipment layouts, especially for new processes, products, or customer-specific requirements.
- Partner with R&D teams to translate lab-scale processes into pilot-scale and full production-scale operations.
- Collaborate with regulatory and safety teams to develop procedures and safety controls for personnel working with hazardous chemicals, processes, or equipment.
- Ensure process areas comply with all applicable environmental, health, and safety regulations, and provide support for waste permitting.
- Conduct tests and monitor process performance throughout production operations.
- Troubleshoot manufacturing process issues, monitor deviations from process controls, and recommend corrective actions to reduce or eliminate variances.
- Maintain and regularly update master inventories of all equipment, chemical inputs and outputs, and waste streams.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to resolve complex process-related challenges.
- Mentor, train, and provide technical guidance to junior process engineers.
- A Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Nuclear Engineering, Materials Science, Materials Science and Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline from an ABET EAC–accredited program is required.
- Five or more years of relevant professional experience is preferred; advanced degrees may be substituted for a portion of the required experience.
