Your OpportunityStantec is seeking an energetic, highly motivated, detail‑oriented self‑starter to join the Nashville, TN office as a Senior Traffic and ITS Engineer. The preferred location is Nashville, TN;
Chattanooga, TN or Knoxville, TN will also be considered.

Key Responsibilities- Apply knowledge of Traffic Engineering and Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) technology to lead tasks in transportation planning, systems engineering analyses, traffic analyses, traffic signal and ITS design, and systems integration support.
- Carry out job functions within multidisciplinary teams of Transportation Engineering and ITS professionals and support direct client interaction during project kickoff, progress meetings, design reviews, production, delivery, support, and analysis.
- Deliver high‑quality written, verbal, and graphical deliverables including operational concepts, technology reviews, designs, and specifications.
- Manage project teams and maintain strong team morale.
- Lead and deliver established and recently‑won on‑call contracts with state and municipal clients, upholding engineering ethics and standards of conduct.
- Perform work involving leading‑edge information and communication technologies to ITS, transportation planning, engineering, and operations.
- Assist in the testing, deployment, operation, support, and maintenance of ITS systems—including software, devices, data, and related technologies.
- Demonstrated ability to manage team members effectively, delegate assignments, and ensure timely completion of projects.
- Strong technical writing, analytical, and communication skills, including verbal presentation of concepts.
- Excellent client‑relationship management skills.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office 365 products (Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel, Project, Access).
- Degree in Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license required; must be licensed in Tennessee or able to obtain license within 6 months.
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in Traffic‑related or ITS‑related subject matter, including design of traffic signals and ITS, with exposure to information and communication technologies (fiber optics, video systems engineering, traveler information, electronic payment, or traffic control systems).
- Experience managing staff and assigning work; interacting with clients and leading projects from beginning to completion.
- Preferred experience:
Signal Design, Signal System Timing, ITS Equipment Integration, Transportation Management Center (TMC) design and operations, All Electronic Toll (AET), High Occupancy Toll (HOT), Open Road Tolling (ORT) projects. - Experience performing quality assurance, testing software applications, and technical document reviews.
- Experience with databases and/or database design or querying using SQL or reporting software.
- Experience with GIS is appreciated.
