Bechtel is the licensing, engineering, procurement, and construction partner on Terra Power’s Natrium team. The Natrium project is a DOE initiative to re-establish U.S. leadership in nuclear energy, deploying a 345 MWe sodium fast reactor (SFR) with an innovative molten salt energy storage system. The facility can produce more than 500 MWe of power, integrating complementary renewable sources.
Job SummaryPlan, develop, and review electrical engineering design work, produce drawings and documentation, prepare design estimates, coordinate with clients, facilitate technical discussions, and review key electrical drawings, calculations, and bid summaries. Ensure designs comply with regulations and standards while working part‑time telework with a minimum of three days in‑person per week.
Major Responsibilities- Electrical physical design (circuit and raceway).
- Raceway design, equipment location and layout, C&R schedule inputting and update, conduit, and above ground raceway design.
- Model equipment and commodities used in the electrical design.
- Produce drawings and documentation for lighting, communications, grounding layout, grounding designs/calculations, and lightning protection systems.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable installation codes, regulations, and standards.
- Interface with construction and subcontractors.
- Provide independent creative design within Bechtel and industry‑proven concepts and procedures.
- Extract 3D model data onto 2D sheets, annotate, and prepare drawings for construction use.
- Perform calculations using AGI 32 for lighting layouts and ETAP for ground grid layouts.
- Develop material specifications using Specs Intact.
- AA/AS or Certificate in Engineering/CAD with 3–4 years of experience, or 5–6 years of relevant work experience in lieu of a degree.
- Proficient experience in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Extensive knowledge and application of NEC code and ANSI/IEEE Standards.
- Experience in nuclear power plant design.
- Proven 2D CAD and 3D skills.
- Experience with an electronic Cable Management System (e.g., SETROUTE) and database input/updates.
- Effective communication and teamwork skills.
- Collaboration with other disciplines.
- Able to manage conflicting deadlines, interruptions, and multiple tasks.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Hands‑on use or classes in a 3D electrical model design platform and electrical 2D design.
- Previous Bechtel and/or DOD or DOE project experience.
