Project OverviewThe Knoxville Engineering Office is the engineering execution center for Bechtel’s Nuclear, Security, & Environmental business line, providing engineering design development and support to multiple large complex projects. Projects executed out of this office are primarily large government works throughout various sectors, including DOD and DOE.
Job SummaryIn this role as a Senior Fire Protection Engineer, you will work on various projects as part of the NS&E engineering execution center team. The projects that will be assigned involve government and commercial work throughout various sectors, including DOD and DOE. The successful candidate must have strong organization and teamwork skills, proven problem‑solving skills, can‑do attitude, and the design to innovate designs.
In this role, you will prepare design and procurement documents relating to Fire Protection and provide technical leadership in the design and development of fire protection systems and equipment. You will develop calculations, design drawings (P&IDs, plans, layouts), Fire Protection hazard analysis reports, system design descriptions, requisition specifications, review and approve sub‑contractors’ submittals, and assist in determining needed changes and with final testing.
Your work will lead the implementation of programs and procedures that promote fire safety.
This role will be based in Knoxville, TN with period business travel, as required.
Major Responsibilities- Executes assignments in Fire Protection Engineering for various projects.
- Participates in the design and development of Fire Protection systems and equipment including sprinkler, fire pump, fire alarm and mass notification systems in accordance with applicable procedures, codes, standards, and contract requirements.
- Develops deliverables including calculations, design and construction drawings, hazards analysis reports, system design descriptions, and requisition specifications.
- Analyzes life safety requirements for buildings, including building code compliance, occupancy determination, occupant load calculations and egress analysis.
- Performs on-site fire protection system evaluations and assists with final system testing. Performs building and fire code analyses and interpretations.
- Provides technical guidance in review of engineering analyses and engineering judgments for alternative fire barrier systems, opening protectives, and penetration firestops.
- Participates in pre‑award meetings, as appropriate.
- Attends post‑award contract meetings, such as post‑award kickoff meetings (PAK), preconstruction conferences, informal or formal partnering meetings, schedule acceptance meeting, design review meetings, weekly progress meetings, and Facility Turnover Planning Meetings.
