Overview
The Department of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville invites applications for a tenure‑track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor in theoretical particle physics. The successful candidate will work closely with our existing particle physics program and collaborate on research in experimental collider and neutrino physics, including leadership in the CMS Experiment, COHERENT, searches for baryon number violation via neutron experiments, and quantum computing.
The role also supports extensive collaboration with Oak Ridge National Laboratory and its facilities.

QualificationsPhD in physics or a closely related field at the time of application. Proven record of research through publications in peer‑reviewed journals, citation statistics, invitations to speak, and scientific leadership roles. Ability to establish an externally funded research program and provide training for graduate students and postdoctoral researchers. Commitment to undergraduate and graduate teaching, and to innovation in curriculum and teaching methods.
ResponsibilitiesEstablish and sustain a research program in theoretical particle physics and related experimental programs. Provide training and mentorship to graduate students and postdoctoral researchers. Contribute to undergraduate and graduate teaching in physics and astronomy, and develop new curricula and innovative teaching approaches. Participate in departmental service and outreach activities, supporting the university’s mission to expand access to education.
