Job Objective:

Teach in the area of Mathematics according to college policy.

Essential Job Functions
  • Teach and develop curriculum in the Mathematics discipline.
  • Apply learning theories to instruction, adapting it to students’ entry‑level knowledge and skills.
  • Recommend course and program changes to the department head when appropriate.
  • Develop class syllabi that meet college requirements and student needs; make syllabi available on the first day of classes.
  • Use alternative instructional strategies as necessary.
  • Inform students of special instructional resources in libraries and/or the Academic Support Center.
  • Orient students to objectives and procedures before beginning instruction.
  • Establish and communicate clearly defined grading procedures and standards.
  • Administer examinations and other evaluations to assess student performance and understanding.
  • Use results of student perception surveys and learning outcome assessments to revise and update content, objectives, and strategies.
  • Keep students aware of their progress in the course.
  • Perform record‑keeping responsibilities related to teaching and advising.
  • Respond in a timely fashion to all reasonable deadlines.
  • Make reasonable classroom accommodations and course adjustments for students with disabilities as required by Pellissippi State Policies.
  • Participate in faculty service, including office hours (in‑person or online), office conferences, and student interactions (mentoring, tutoring, advising, etc.).
  • Serve on committees and task forces as appointed.
  • Attend faculty meetings and contribute to the advancement of college goals.
  • Participate in program or discipline level assessment.
  • Engage in professional development related to pedagogy and the discipline.
Non‑Classroom Student Interactions
  • Be knowledgeable of college policies, procedures, and assistance available to students.
  • Post and be available during office hours.
  • Hold conferences with students as needed.
  • Interact with students in meaningful ways outside the classroom, such as sponsoring clubs, extra review sessions, mentoring, academic advising, tutoring, and orientation leadership.
Minimum Faculty Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in the teaching field or completion of at least 18 graduate semester hours in the field, from a regionally accredited institution.
  • Minimum of one year of college‑level teaching experience.

  • Ability to communicate effectively in an academic environment.
