Overview

Description The Biosystems Engineering and Soil Science Department in the Herbert College of Agriculture at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville is searching for a lecturer to fill a 9-month position in the Construction Science and Management (CSM) program. The successful candidate will be responsible for working with the CSM program Faculty, program Director, and Professional Advisors to deliver coursework which will complement the comprehensive construction science and management curriculum.

The candidate should be willing to engage in innovative and interdisciplinary teaching, program development, and service activities. Specific duties and responsibilities will include:

  • Develop and teach courses within the CSM curriculum. Current areas of teaching needs include:
    Fundamentals of Building Systems and Materials, Construction Documents, Construction Information Technology, Construction Surveying, Behavior of Construction Materials, Statics, Mechanical and Electrical Systems, Estimating, and Project Planning.
  • It is preferred, but not necessary, that candidates have special experience or interest in Construction Information technology (including but not limited to BIM, VDC, and digital project management) and/or estimating.
  • Maintain a strong commitment to departmental, institutional, and professional citizenship. This includes advising/mentoring student groups and participation in associated enrichment activities, and service on departmental, college, and professional committees.
  • Advance and promote the CSM curriculum while enhancing its enrollment.
  • Support expansion and evolution of the current curriculum.
  • Support professional development and career development in the student body including activities such as professional development seminars and career fairs. The successful candidate will help ensure that the CSM program continues its standard of excellence in helping students find and earn their future careers.
  • Support the development of a nationally recognized program through participation in national education organizations and competitions, publication or teaching and research contributions, and the incorporation of innovative methods, software, and equipment into existing facilities to accommodate instruction.

Qualifications

Master’s degree in Construction Management, Architecture, Engineering, or a related field at time of hire. The candidate must have a proven track record or demonstrated promise of strong teaching skills in the classroom and laboratory. Demonstrated excellence in written and oral communication skills is necessary.

Qualifications:

Terminal degree in Construction Management, Architecture, Engineering, or a related field at time of hire. Desired qualifications also include evidence of progressively responsible industry experience over the applicant’s career, evidence of effective communication, significant U.S. construction experience, professional registration or contractor’s license; certification and/or credentials, capability of incorporating information technology into the classroom and experience teaching at the university level.
