To teach and develop PHILOSOPHY courses while furthering the goals of the program, department, college, and community college system

A. TEACHING:
Develop and teach PHILOSOPHY courses to a diverse student population using both traditional and alternative delivery formats (hybrid, web, cohort, accelerated). Prepare course syllabi, course materials, evaluate student learning, and maintain class records.

B. SERVICE/OUTREACH:
Participate in program/curriculum development and assessment, student advising, department meetings, and college boards and committees. Perform related duties as assigned.

C. PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT:
Participate in continuing professional development to improve teaching, evaluation of student learning, and classroom technique.

Marginal tasks performed include the operation of standard office equipment such as computer and copy machines.

• a. Master’s Degree in Philosophy from a regionally accredited institution.
• b. Minimum one-year related teaching experience at the postsecondary level
• c. Understanding and acceptance of the comprehensive community college philosophy.

• a. Experience teaching introductory level courses in philosophy
• b. Experience using multiple teaching formats, including web-based and traditional on-campus modalities preferred
• c. Experience teaching in a community college preferred
• d. Ability to communicate effectively and to establish and maintain effective interpersonal relationships

Candidates should be prepared to teach at any of the college’s five campuses, or online as needed. Travel between sites may be required.

Some use of telephone, computer equipment, overhead projector, fax machines and other standard office equipment is required. Facility with computer communication systems, learning management systems, and visual aid production a must.
