Superintendent
Status & Salary:
Non-Exempt, hourly; based on related experience and skills
Company Overview:
Queen City Railroad Construction, Inc operates as a railroad construction contractor for building and repairing railroad tracks primarily in the Midwest, Mid-Atlantic, and Southern regions of the United States.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Manages all aspects of jobsite.
Responsibilities:
- Coordinates daily tasks according to priorities and plans, making changes when necessary due to weather, supply, delivery and personnel.
- Delegates responsibilities and projects to crew member and contractors
- Reports project status to management via daily production reports and telephone calls
- Ensures that daily job briefings are completed and that all crew members understand their track protection
- Sees that the crew follows all the required construction methods.
- Checks that the project is proceeding according to construction plan.
- Ensure working conditions are safe and that proper PPE is being used as job duties require.
- Must ensure all employees follow all DOT, OSHA and FRA regulations specific to job.
- Installation of rails, ties switches and other track materials
- Maintenance and repair of equipment
- Utilization of powered and unpowered hand tools
- Other duties as assigned by Management.
- Experience is railroad construction is required, preferably in a Foreman or above role
- Experience working outdoors (preferably in construction)
- Have valid driver's license and ability to obtain CDL license (IF REQUIRED) within 3 months of start date
- Extensive travel is required
- Must pass background check and drug test
- Must have the basic understanding of track construction and be able to forecast the next step in whatever task project team is working on.
- Have a strong history of punctuality and attendance
- Be willing to take the lead and make decisions for the benefit of the company
Experience:
- Prefer previous construction experience and/or mechanical aptitude
- Safety conscious with high regard for other employees working with or near equipment
- Must be a team player and willing to learn all phases of the position.
- Will require being away from home for extended periods of time.
- Able to perform duties outside in multiple environments including but not limited to heat and humidity, rain, snow, and ice
- Frequent walking on uneven surfaces
- Standing for extended periods of time
- Lift/carry or push/pull equipment and other objects weighing up to 75 pounds
- Must be able to bend, stoop and kneel for extended periods of time
