The Role
The Construction Materials Engineering Technician role involves performing field and laboratory testing on construction materials such as soil, concrete, asphalt, and aggregates to verify compliance with project specifications and industry standards. This position offers the chance to contribute to the successful delivery of construction projects, interact with clients, and mentor junior team members.
Responsibilities- Plan Review:
Examine construction plans and specifications to ensure alignment with on-site conditions. - Material Testing:
Conduct field and lab tests on soils, concrete, asphalt, masonry, and other materials to verify compliance. - Software Utilization:
Accurately document test results using field data management software. - Equipment Calibration:
Ensure proper calibration of testing equipment to maintain accuracy. - Special Inspections:
Perform inspections for regulatory compliance and quality assurance.
- High School Diploma or GED
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in construction materials testing and inspections
- Five or more active certifications, such as: ACI:
Field Testing Grade I, Strength Testing Technician, or Laboratory Technician; ICC:
Reinforced Concrete, Masonry, or Soils Special Inspector - Strong communication skills (reading, writing, speaking)
- Solid math skills with basic understanding of weight, volume, pressure, and units of measure
- Perform the physical demands of the position with company-provided PPE
- Work outdoors in varying weather conditions
- Walk over rough, uneven terrain and stand for extended periods
- Routinely lift and carry 40-50 lbs (samples and equipment)
- Safely maneuver field equipment around active construction sites
