Compensation is based on the level and requirements of the role. Salary within our ranges may also be determined by your education and experience as required by the role, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data. Typically, new team members join at the minimum to mid salary range.

A certified peer support specialist is a person with significant life-altering experience, also referred to as "lived experience." These specialists support individuals with struggles pertaining to mental health, psychological trauma or substance use. Peer Support Specialists (PSS) are past or present clients of mental health and/or substance use disorder services who have experienced significant recovery to provide peer services. The PSS offers peer support to individuals who have similar life experiences and acts as a positive role model to aid in recovery.
The PSS is a member of an interdisciplinary team and participates in the development of personal recovery plans.
- Meets with assigned peers in a variety of settings to establish and maintain a positive, trusting relationship.
- Meets with peers in a medical clinic setting to provide emotional support and a supportive presence.
- Attends group sessions for clients to support patient growth and recovery.
- Assists clients in identifying their personal recovery goals through the development of a Personal Recovery Plan.
- Assist clients in working on overcoming barriers to maintaining independence and may help with skill building in budgeting, transportation, health care appointments, and linking with benefits.
- Provides follow-up support to connect individuals with a full range of resources in the community to maintain stability and control over their lives.
Certified Peer Support Specialists must conduct themselves in accordance with the NCC AP NCPRSS Code of Ethics:
- Maintain a minimum of two (2) clinical supervision sessions per month totaling at least 2 hours of documented clinical supervision.
- Accurately identify qualifications, expertise, and certifications to all whom I serve and to the public.
- Make public statements that are true and reflect current information.
- Remain free from substances that affect the ability to perform duties.
- Recognize personal issues that may impact performance.
- Maintain regular supervision and ongoing support to address challenging personal issues; misconduct may result in credential suspension.
- Respect and acknowledge the contributions of others and give credit where due.
- Maintain required documentation for all clients, records per policy and federal requirements; ensure secure storage and compliance with disposal policies.
- Protect privacy and confidentiality of persons served in accordance with HIPAA, laws and regulations (including electronic privacy).
- Use client contact information per agency policy.
- Not to create a private practice.
- Must meet the following Oregon Health Authority (OHA) Certified Peer Support Specialist requirements:
Complete an OHA application and submit to the Office of Equity and Inclusion (OEI); pass a criminal history background check administered by the OHA Background Check Unit (BCU); be an Oregon State Certified Mental Health Peer Support Specialist under the Traditional Health Worker (THW) program; be an Oregon State Certified Adult Addictions Peer Support Specialist under the THW program.
- Experience demonstrating competencies to identify precipitating events:
- Be at least 18 years of age.
- Must not be listed on the Medicaid provider exclusion list.
