Qualifications- Required
:
Medical or clerical experience; 50 wpm keyboard skills;
Excellent spelling, math, problem solving skills;
Filing skills; telephone skills; data entry:
Ability to work independently and with co-workers as well as communicate effectively with patients and professionals; and Ability to prioritize, organize, and attend to detail. - Preferred
:
Medical terminology, and limited ICD-9 coding knowledge.
Medium physical demand level capabilities required. Must be able to accommodate fast, efficient pace. Must be able to sit, stand, or walk for extended periods of time. Must be able to lift up to 40 pounds and push a wheelchair up to 250 pounds. Assist a patient in and out of a chair, wheelchair, or from an automobile and be able to ride in an elevator.
20/25 vision with correction required. Good hearing and legible handwriting.
- Performs department patient and visitor reception, and directs patient to the appropriate location.
- Obtains and verifies insurance and billing information. Able to accurately process information for all insurance types as well as have the ability to obtain the necessary information for insurance types that are not familiar.
- Audits charts daily for completeness and accuracy. Completes follow-ups within the designated time required. Forwards follow-ups that need to be completed before next scheduled shift to the appropriate person.
- Prepares identification bracelet as well as paperwork used during patient care in a timely manner.
- Maintains >95% accuracy.
- Able to look up non-scheduled patient exams in the data base.
- Contacts appropriate people when office equipment repair is needed.
- Maintains close working relationship with ancillary clinical departments and physician’s offices.
- Attends meetings and supports the future directions of the division and aides in communicating improvements through direct contact with supervisor.
- Trains and orients new department clerical staff.
- Communicates effectively, both in person and on the telephone and is able to work and interact with a variety of personality types.
- Handles stress and pressure and has the ability to make decisions.
- Understands, supports, and complies with the philosophy, policies, and procedures of Sky Lakes Medical Center.
- Maintains competency in all position responsibilities.
- Demonstrates competence in relation to the defined mission, vision, values, and strategic plan of the organization. This will be apparent by ongoing completion of any or all of the following: proficiency testing, skill demonstration, practice of core standards for service excellence, and documentation review.
