Pharmacy Tech – Inpatient Pharmacy – .5 Varying Shifts Qualifications

• Required:
  
  Ability/aptitude to demonstrate high school math/science; knowledge of the metric system; 40 wpm typing skills; follow oral and written instructions; attention to detail with accuracy and efficiency; perform mathematical proportion problems.
• Preferred:
  Previous health care experience especially in a pharmacy.
• Lic/Reg/Cert:
  Licensed with Oregon Board of Pharmacy; national certification required within one year from start date.

Medium demands for push/pull/lifting work; able to lift 30 pounds; stand for long periods. Able to analyze work situations, problem solve and work in a professional manner; perform various mathematical equations; learn 1000 generic/trade names; work under supervision in filling orders and preparing I.V. admixtures; understand the principles of a laminar/vertical flow hood and aseptic technique; fill patient orders from physician’s written order and enter data into computer accurately.

• Prepares sterile admixtures in accordance with established policies and procedures. Maintains stock levels of IV admixtures. Understands principle of laminar flow hood and the proper use of all equipment in the pharmacy. Prepares and delivers I.V. medications as required per time schedule daily. Ability to update I.V. information.
• Prepares and delivers medications accurately and notifies Pharmacist of significant problems. Prepares prescription drugs for inpatients and outpatients under Pharmacist supervision. Repackages all drugs needed and labels these accurately. Accurately enters data into pharmacy computer, credits and debts accurately.
• Attends department meetings and provides ideas for innovations, cost containment, improving quality of care and solutions to problems. Voice ideas/opinions in staff meetings. Works on project(s) that contribute to the development and subsequent improvement of the Pharmacy.
• Fills and records stock orders. Responds to requests from nursing and ancillary departments. Ability to prioritize job tasks based on patient need. Accurately maintains narcotics control data. Is aware of inventory control systems; orders and stocks areas appropriately and cost effectively. Removes outdated medications in the pharmacy and from assigned units.
• Knowledge of hazardous materials and associated safety practices.
• Ability to work under daily stress and demands from patient care units.
• Demonstrates effective communication in writing, phone etiquette, and communication with staff and co‑workers.
• Demonstrates competence in relation to the defined mission, vision, values, and strategic plan of the organization. This will be apparent by ongoing completion of any or all of the following: proficiency testing, skill demonstration, practice of core standards for service excellence, and documentation review.
• Provide patient care and performs tasks using job skills and growth and develop knowledge specific to the patient’s age and/or developmental level. Demonstrates awareness of cultural and spiritual practices of the customer(s).
• Maximize work efficiency through the use of computers and other technologies, including automated dispensing units (Pyxis).

• Performs other duties as assigned.
