Duties Help
* You will perform mechanical, piping, structural, pre-arrival and material condition assessment inspections, certification and acceptance of completed work reviews on nuclear reactor plant, refueling, and overhaul work.
* You will perform receipt inspection, pre-use inspection, and marking verification of naval nuclear material ensuring proper material control and traceability is maintained.
* You will perform weld joint in-process and acceptance inspections for nuclear welding and non-destructive tests.
* You will prepare Nuclear Deficiency reports to initiate and authorize rejection of workmanship, components, materials and procedures that do not meet specification.
* You will ensure reactor grade cleanliness is maintained in accordance with local directives as required by NAVSEA specifications for reactor plant cleanliness.
* You will ensure the safety and operational capabilities of nuclear reactor plant systems.
* You will maintain records of inspections performed, results of inspections, and corrective actions taken in accordance with local directives. Requirements Help Conditions of employment

* Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
* You may be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
* Overtime will be required.
* You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination. Ability to Inspect as a Nuclear Mechanical & Structural Systems Inspector (SHIPS) performing duties such as:
* Maintaining a highly sophisticated and complex nuclear reactor plant system in accordance with critical design requirements and specifications.
* Performing inspections and verifying that specifications are being followed, using knowledge of all nuclear trades.
* Testing temporary systems and equipment after completion of work for proper flow, pressure and leak free joints.
* Performing reactor refueling operations, weld joint in-process and acceptance inspections for nuclear welding and Non-Destructive Testing.
* Interpreting diagrams, specifications, drawings and interrelated procedure and technical requirements.
