Seeking skilled Receipt Inspectors to support Quality Assurance operations at Portsmouth Naval Shipyard (PNS), a NAVSEA activity supporting Naval Nuclear Submarines.
Receipt Inspectors ensure all procured machined components, fasteners, manifolds, and critical materials meet NAVSEA standards before release to submarine programs. This position requires advanced precision measurement expertise, strong documentation discipline, and experience in high-consequence environments.
This is an on-site position within a secure shipyard environment.
Key ResponsibilitiesReceipt Inspectors will perform:
- Visual, dimensional, and material identification inspections
- Setup and inspection on precision surface plates
- Functional checks (flexure and spring rate testing)
- Generic material verification using acid spot testing, magnet testing, and XRF or LIBBS analysis
- Operation of hardness testers, electronic plating thickness gauges, surface finish analyzers, and optical comparators
- Precision measurement using profilometers, digital height gages, calipers, thread pitch gages, plug gages, dial indicators, and gage blocks
Inspectors are expected to complete a minimum of 8 inspections per month following qualification.
Required QualificationsCandidates must have:
- Minimum 5 years of experience in precision measurement and machined parts inspection
- Demonstrated experience in precision testing, documenting inspection results, and material certification and traceability
- Experience inspecting and certifying material in accordance with NAVSEA standards, including NAVSEA 0948-LP-045-7010 (Material Control), NAVSEA SS800-AG-MAN-010/P-9290 (Deep Submergence Systems), and NAVSEA T9044-AD-MAN-010 (Submarine Fly-By-Wire Systems)
- Experience with L1 certification of Marotta and Vacco reducing manifolds, L1 certification of fasteners (System 21 & 22 gaging requirements), welding commodities and mill product inspections, and MIL-STD-792 marking methods
- OSHA safety training and certification
- Active DoD clearance (Secret or higher)
- On-site at Portsmouth Naval Shipyard (Kittery, ME)
- Secure facility with controlled access
- Radiological and safety indoctrination required
- First Shift (0600–1430); potential Second Shift expansion in option years
- Over time may be required with advance notice
- High mechanical aptitude
- Strong attention to detail
- Experience in nuclear, submarine, aerospace, or high-spec defense manufacturing environments
- Able to work independently within structured QA programs
- Mission-critical inspection role
