Overview

Location: Mitchell Primary School

Reports To: Building Principal and Director of Special Services

Start Date: As soon as a suitable candidate is found

Required Certification: Educational Technician II

General Purpose

To be responsible for the supervision of children assigned to him/her. This person will review and implement learning previously introduced by the Special Education Teacher.

Responsibilities
  • Maintain confidentiality of all student, family and employee related information
  • Meet with program supervisor on a daily basis to share information and discuss student progress
  • Review and reinforce learning previously introduced by the teachers
  • Assist in the preparation of classroom materials and class management functions
  • Maintain appropriate certification by attending meetings and trainings as assigned
  • Exhibit positive language and behavior skills as a model for children and families
  • Provide input to completion and maintenance of individual observational child assessment
  • Participate in required training
  • Perform any other appropriate duties as deemed by the Special Education Director/Supervisor
Minimum Qualifications
  • Obtain and maintain authorization as an Ed Tech II per Chapter 115 of the Maine Department of Education
  • Education:

    Document at least two years of postsecondary education or a combination equivalent to 60 hours of approved study in an educationally related field
  • Successful background, criminal records, fingerprinting and reference check

  • Working knowledge of child development, disabilities, family systems and special education
  • Exhibit a positive professionalism with supervisors, co-workers, students, parents and community
  • Interact with a wide variety of people
  • Provide individual and group services in a variety of settings and models
  • Establish an effective rapport/relationship with children and parents
  • Work collaboratively as a member of an early childhood team
  • Effectively communicate - orally and in writing
