Position: REGISTERED NURSE

Position Summary

Do you have a passion for nursing? We have the position for you! We are seeking a motivated Registered Nurse with a dedication for delivering compassionate patient care to join our team at the Kitimat General Hospital.

In accordance with the established mission, vision, values, and strategic priorities of Northern Health, the Registered Nurse practices in accordance with the standards of professional practice and code of ethics as outlined by the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM) as well as within a patient and family centered care model.

The Registered Nurse – Emergency, working collaboratively with the interprofessional team, plans and provides direct patient care by assessing, planning, providing and evaluating nursing care to clients with various complex health care issues, from non‑urgent to life threatening, to patients in the Emergency department. The Registered Nurse demonstrates a specialized body of knowledge and bases practice on nursing science and related content from other sciences and humanities.

Days, Nights, 07:00 to 19:00, 19:00 to 07:00 (rotating)

Kitimat General Hospital and Health Centre

is a 20‑bed Acute Care unit including 2 maternity beds. It integrates Acute Care, residential care, public health and community care in one facility. The services include:

  • Emergency
  • Physiotherapy
  • Radiology
  • Laboratory
  • Diabetes and Chronic Disease management
  • Outpatient Community Chemotherapy clinic
  • Regional Orthopaedic Centre
  • Regional Palliative Care Nurse consultant
  • Mountainview Lodge a 36‑bed residential and complex care facility
  • Public Health team
Kitimat

Set in a beautiful and natural ocean, mountain and valley paradise, Kitimat is located on the Douglas Channel just a few miles off British Columbia’s inside passage. Kitimat was built in the 1950’s and is one of BC’s youngest coastal communities. Main industries include an aluminum smelter, a pulp and paper mill and a petrochemical manufacturer. The population of Kitimat is approximately 8,236.

The community has three elementary schools, two secondary schools, and one post‑secondary school. Check out Kitimat where there is always something new to experience.

Qualfications
  • Graduation from an approved School of Nursing and registration with BC College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM) as a practicing RN registrant.
  • Completion of a recognized Emergency Nursing specialty program or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS), Advance Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
Skills and Abilities
  • Current cardiac monitoring skills.
  • Ability to determine and deal with emergency situations and make appropriate clinical decisions.
  • Ability to initiate intravenous therapy and maintain IV lines.
  • Ability to complete initial and ongoing patient assessments (clinical and diagnostic reasoning) and provide nursing care through appropriate/prescribed technical, therapeutic, safety type interventions.
