The Counter Sales Associate adds value to our customers and co‑workers by providing fast, friendly and knowledgeable service at the counter, fostering customer and vendor relationships, and supporting branch warehouse and logistics to meet or exceed customer expectations.

Primary Duties and ResponsibilitiesCustomer Service:
- Build and maintain strong customer and vendor relationships to increase sales and build customer loyalty
- Provide fast and friendly service at the counter, over the phone, and by email
- Maintain current and relevant product knowledge to assess customer needs and offer assistance and solutions in a professional manner
- Occasional order delivery may be required to meet customer needs
Order Picking & Receiving:
- Meet daily productivity expectations by accurately picking and verifying products according to order specifications and using handheld scanners
- Assist with packing orders and restocking shelves as required
Order Processing:
- Manage, process customer orders quickly and accurately, handle returns and the required paperwork, and source items that are not in stock
Logistics:
- Plan and optimize local delivery routes to maximize efficiency and meet delivery deadlines
Warehouse Maintenance:
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment by following company policies and safety procedures
- Proactively address or report issues, clean as you go, and ensure positive customer service for co‑workers and customers
- Other duties as assigned
Knowledge/Skill/Ability Requirements:
- Ability to consistently model Next’s core values and character expectations
- Strong knowledge of plumbing
- Good English reading and writing skills
- Attention to detail and accuracy
- Ability to operate warehouse equipment (reach truck, forklift, etc.) safely and efficiently and to obtain an MHE license within 3 months of hiring (based on location)
- Good English verbal communication and customer service skills
- Good computer skills with the ability to effectively email, read and use reports in Microsoft Office and database software
- Basic math functions
- Knowledge of hydronics an asset
- A positive attitude with the ability to work well in a team environment
Experience &
Education:
- High School or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Minimum 2 years of customer service/ counter sales experience
- Valid Driver’s License may be required to make the occasional delivery
- Previous plumbing, wholesale experience
Physical Demands/
Working Conditions:
- This position requires working weekends on a rotational basis
- This position involves standing, walking, and lifting for extended periods
- This position requires the ability to lift up to 50 pounds without assistance
