Position Overview
As our Mechanical Section Manager you will lead the Mechanical Section of the Design Engineering group, overseeing all Nuclear Services Mechanical Designers to ensure high‑quality, on‑time, and on‑budget project delivery. You will provide direction and support to your team while serving as a key link between the Design Engineering Manager, project managers, and customers, actively contributing technical design expertise to support project success and client communications.

On‑site in Kitchener, Ontario

Your Day to Day as Mechanical Section Manager
Ensure effective allocation and utilization of design resources

Ensure that design and schedule expectations for all current projects are being met

Support emergency tooling needs

Identify future field services tooling that needs to be developed

Manage Designer Performance

Schedule work assignments based on project needs

Complete performance evaluations

Provide clear expectations and regular feedback

Identify training that is required to maintain or improve performance

Foster professional development through mentoring and coaching

Provide and arrange applicable training

Support the team in troubleshooting issues

Lead design employee hiring initiatives

Responsible for the oversight of Performance Improvement Plans

Responsible for the oversight of Individual Development Plans for identified talent

Provide Technical Expertise

Attend design reviews (internal and external)

Provide technical leadership and support during customer interactions

Generate Proposals

Prepare and support proposals for the design, analysis, and fabrication of tooling solutions

Collaborate with the design team, project management, field technicians, field engineers and trades, etc.

Health and Safety

Ensure all work complies with safety standards, regulatory requirements, and company policies, while promoting a strong safety culture among the team.

Quality

Ensure all work is completed to applicable quality standards

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in some field of engineering (preferably Mechanical)

10 years of experience in the nuclear industry

Strong oral presentation skills and writing skills

Professional Engineer designation is an asset but is not required

Tooling design experience is strongly preferred

Experience with N299 Quality Programs a bonus

Security Clearance
This role requires the successful candidate to complete the security clearance process. The security clearance process is conducted in accordance with applicable regulatory requirements of the Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS) and the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC) and may take up to 12 months to complete.
