Job Description The Mechanical Designer will create, develop, and test products such as machines, tools, and sensors for the material handling product lines. They also collect fabricated data on prototype performance and oversee the manufacturing process for their designs. Responsibilities- Complete designs and drawings (use 3D and/or 2D design software) to manufacture mechanical systems.
- Set up, organize and maintain Solidworks PDM drawings data for use by the engineering and manufacturing team.
- Generate manuals that accompany products, when required.
- Understand project objectives, create and manage design standards, and direct the design to meet these objectives.
- Establish and maintain CAD data standards, structures, processes, and supporting documents for the engineering team.
- Independently develop workable design concepts.
- Check for mistakes that could cause rework.
- Document changes to projects or jobs and ensure proper documentation.
- Recommend products, designs, and materials for cost improvement.
- Control design and build targets related to customer requirements.
- Attend project kick‑off meetings, site visits, department meetings and project debrief meetings.
- Liaise with the manufacturing team to ensure design is executed correctly and Education within timelines.
- Provide technical support for shop production proactively.
- Collaborate with the installation team and respond to questions or problems beforešti and during the installation phase of projects.
- Degree or Diploma in mechanical engineering with exposure to mechanical, industrial, and control integration;
Solidworks training courses are an asset. - P.Eng. designation an asset.
- AutoCAD certification preferred.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable vehicle.
- Valid passport with ability to travel in North America as needed, less than 10 % of time.
- 5+ years of related experience as a Mechanical Engineer, Mechanical Designer, or related position.
- Exceptional skills using Solidworks PDM Professional in an industrial manufacturing environment.
- Proven experience in a Lean manufacturing environment, methods, and process improvement programs.
- Proficient software experience with ERP systems (Microsoft Dynamics NAV preferred) and Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and MS Project).
- Clear and timely communication with appropriate tools and techniques.
- Encourage candor and clarity throughout the organization.
- Foster teamwork and collaborate effectively to set goals, resolve problems, and make decisions.
- Influence others positively to achieve organizational results.
- Manage priorities, develop work schedules, monitor progress, and track details.
