Job Overview
The Waterloo Region District School Board (WRDSB) is seeking a Before and After School Support (B.A.S.S.) employee to support play‑based programming for students in junior kindergarten through grade 6 in the extended day program. The role will work alongside a Designated Early Childhood Educator (DECE) in a long‑term, occasional capacity.
Responsibilities- Follow guidance of the DECE and support day‑classroom operations.
- Support positive, responsive interactions among children, parents, child‑care providers, and staff.
- Encourage children to interact, communicate, and self‑regulate.
- Support exploration, play, inquiry, and child‑initiated and adult‑supported experiences.
- Support inclusive learning environments for all children, including those with individualized plans.
- Support indoor/outdoor play, active play, quiet time, and consider individual needs of children receiving child care.
- Foster ongoing communication with parents about the program and their children.
- Follow licensing requirements under the Child Care and Early Years Act.
- Promote an anti‑oppressive, anti‑racist, inclusive culture where all children feel seen, heard, respected, and supported.
- Support health, safety, nutrition and well‑being of children.
- Supervise children and ensure they are healthy and safe by following Public Health, First Aid and Emergency procedures.
- High school diploma, GED or equivalent.
- Prior experience supervising and supporting children in a positive, safe manner.
- Valid Standard First Aid with CPR Level C/AED or willingness to obtain as condition of employment.
- Satisfactory Police Vulnerable Sector Check (PVSC) current within 5 years if current employee; current within 6 months for new employees.
- Must complete Licensed child‑care staff record requirements, including Public Health health assessment.
