Overview
A Communications Operator (911 Operator/Dispatcher) is a Public Safety Telecommunicator that is responsible for answering, processing, prioritizing, and dispatching incoming emergency and non-emergency calls for service using a computer-aided dispatching system.
A Communications Operator is an essential part of the First Responders team that receives calls from the public concerning law enforcement, fire, or medical emergencies. The Communications Operator evaluates the situation and decides which services to utilize by relaying instructions, asking questions, and obtaining pertinent information. The Communications Operator will then notify the appropriate field personnel (Deputies, Firefighters, EMTs) of where to respond via radio while providing pertinent information about the call for service and entering data into the computer-aided dispatch system.
This position requires dedicated personnel that have the ability to handle and manage emergency situations, work within a fast-paced environment, and have the ability to multitask. This position is highly rewarding by providing help to our citizens and visitors when they need help the most.
Compensation - Sign-on Bonus: $3,000.00
Responsibilities- Answer, process, prioritize, and dispatch incoming emergency and non-emergency calls using a computer-aided dispatching system.
- Serve as part of the First Responders team, receiving calls concerning law enforcement, fire, or medical emergencies.
- Evaluate situations and determine which services to utilize by relaying instructions, asking questions, and obtaining pertinent information.
- Notify appropriate field personnel via radio and provide pertinent information about the call for service while entering data into the CAD system.
- Handle emergency situations in a fast-paced environment and multitask effectively.
- Must have a High School Diploma or GED.
- Must be able to work rotating shifts, night shifts, weekends, holidays, and be available for on-call.
- Must be able to work 12-hour shifts;
Day Shift 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and Night Shift 6:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. with a four-month rotation. - Must be able to type 30 WPM with 90% accuracy.
- Must pass the Ergo metrics ECOMM National Exam.
- Successfully pass a truth verification exam, drug screen, audiometry exam, and a psychological evaluation.
- Must be able to multi-task and work within a high-stress environment.
- No tattoos on the head, face, neck, hands, or other areas that cannot be concealed. Tattoos must not be excessive or offensive in nature.
- Must be willing to give a three-year commitment to the Communications division.
