Safeguarding Support Officer

We are seeking a committed, compassionate and highly organised individual to join our school as a Safeguarding Support Officer. This is a key role within our pastoral and safeguarding team, working closely with the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) and Senior Leadership Team to promote the safety, wellbeing and inclusion of all pupils.

Key responsibilities

The focus of the post will be to support the identification, assessment and monitoring of pupils who may be vulnerable or at risk, ensuring appropriate interventions and referrals are made in line with statutory safeguarding procedures. The successful candidate will work in partnership with families and external agencies, contribute to multi‑agency meetings, maintain accurate and confidential safeguarding records, and support positive attendance, behaviour and inclusion across school.

The role will also include contributing to the development and implementation of safeguarding policies and procedures, supporting staff in understanding safeguarding expectations, and helping to remove barriers to learning so that all pupils can achieve their full potential.

Key Qualities / Skills
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of safeguarding and child protection procedures;
  • Experience of working with children, young people and families;
  • Ability to recognise and respond to early signs of abuse, neglect or vulnerability;
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills;
  • Ability to build positive, professional relationships with pupils, parents and external agencies;
  • High levels of organisation, discretion and confidentiality;
  • Competent in the use of IT systems to maintain accurate records and reports;
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a wider team in a busy school environment.
