• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
• 5 years of experience with software development in one or more programming languages.
• 3 years of experience testing, maintaining, or launching software products, and 1 year of experience with software design and architecture.
• 3 years of experience with developing large-scale infrastructure, distributed systems or networks, or experience with compute technologies, storage or hardware architecture.
• Experience in the following: database internals, query processing, performance analysis, SQL.
• Experience programming in C++.

• Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science or a related technical field.
• Experience with vectorized query runtimes, low-level systems implementation, performance analysis and optimization, and engineering for scalability, high performance, large-scale distributed systems.
• Experience in the following: influencing, collaboration, concurrency multithreading synchronization, distributed computing, distributed databases.
• Experience with database query runtimes.
• Experience working on performance improvement projects spanning multiple functional areas.
• Experience building infrastructure in Google Cloud or other cloud providers.

Big Query is one of the leaders in the data warehousing space. As we learned in recent years, most of the queries users run are working on small datasets. Our team's mission is to make Big Query the best data warehouse for low latency, high throughput use-cases.

Over the last few years, we built optimizations to solve parts of this problem. We recently proved that small queries on industry benchmarks can execute an order of magnitude faster if we cut overhead and optimize execution. As a result, half of Big Query queries could run over 50% faster, closing a major participant gap.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $166,000-$244,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
