General PurposeThe Retail Associate ensures customers have a positive shopping experience. The Associate greets all customers, treats fellow associates with respect, follows best‑practice standards, maintains a clean work area, and ensures proper merchandise presentation. The role requires engagement during all working hours and may involve additional tasks as needed to support customer service and operational goals.
Essential Functions- Practice safe behaviors and maintain a safe, clutter‑free sales floor.
- Treat all customers and associates with respect, courtesy and professionalism.
- Assist customers—register‑trained, answer questions, provide polite and knowledgeable service and greet all customers with eye contact, a smile and friendly greetings.
- Respond promptly to customer service calls and handle all customer issues courteously, involving store leadership when necessary.
- Represent and support the Ross brand at all times.
- Perform regular cleaning tasks—sweeping, mopping, dusting, wiping counters and mirrors, replenishing restroom supplies, and disinfecting high‑touch areas.
- Maintain a professional appearance and adhere to the dress code.
- Perform daily assigned sizing and recovery to keep the store neat, clean and merchandised to standards.
- Expedite newly received merchandise to the sales floor with urgency and adhere to monthly presentation guidelines.
- Understand the Loss Prevention Awareness program and related merchandise protection standards.
- Safeguard confidential information, cash, credit card data and merchandise.
- Follow Mark‑Out‑of‑Stock (MOS) policies and procedures for handling disposals.
- Follow all cash, check, charge‑card, refund, void and offline procedures while maintaining accuracy.

- Communicate friendly, respectful, cooperative and pleasant with customers, associates and store leadership.
- Perform basic mathematical calculations commonly used in retail environments.
- Use all store equipment such as PDTs, registers and PCs as required.
- Stand, walk and move throughout the store 100% of the working time.
- Regularly bend at the waist, squat, kneel, climb, carry, reach and stoop.
- Occasionally push, pull and lift more than 25 pounds.
- Use janitorial equipment, rolling racks, ladders and other assigned supplies.
- Stockroom shifts may require regularly pushing, pulling and lifting over 20 pounds.
