Director, Engineering, Big Query Platform

We are looking for a Director of Engineering for the Big Query Platform at Google.

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience.
• 15 years of professional experience in engineering leadership or related technical roles.
• Experience operating in an entrepreneurial environment, scaling new and emerging products from the ground-up.

• PhD in Computer Science.
• Experience bringing innovative, industry‑leading, category‑defining tech products to market.
• Experience working with executive‑level internal and external clients and partners, acting as a representative of the company.
• Experience with enterprise security and high‑scale distributed systems.
• Ability to work cross‑functionally, partnering with groups (e.g., product management, product marketing, UX, and UI), brokering trade‑offs with stakeholders, and understanding their needs.
• Excellent narrative and storytelling abilities, communication skills, and presentation skills.

As the Director of Engineering, you will be responsible for leading teams of engineers in the development and delivery of Big Query engineering, security and multi‑tenancy infrastructure. You will work closely with product managers, designers, and other stakeholders to ensure that Big Query is used to its full potential to create innovative features for Big Query reliability and security while optimizing engineering velocity.

You will use AI and agents to accelerate development of Big Query and its infrastructure.

In this role, you will set and communicate a clear technical direction that supports our business goals, drive standards for engineering excellence that lead to scale and customer satisfaction, and effectively collaborate with other leaders across various functions and execution areas. The US base salary range for this full‑time position is $294,000–$414,000 plus bonus, equity and benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job‑related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. • Lead several teams covering the whole spectrum of infrastructure for data analytics across the spectrum of multi‑tenancy, security, quality, and velocity.
• Work with other engineering stakeholders to develop an AI base to ensure Big Query service infrastructure and engineering infrastructure improves security, reliability, and velocity.
• Work closely with product management to define the product roadmap, in collaboration with Google Cloud and broader Google teams.
• Stay up‑to‑date on the latest trends in data analytics, security, Artificial Intelligence (AI) and agent development.
