Base payBase pay range: $77.00/hr
Job SummaryThe Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (Ultrasound Technologist) operates ultrasound equipment under the supervision of a doctor to reveal internal, anatomical structures and medical conditions that cannot be captured by x-rays. Sonographers may specialize in examining specific areas of the body, for example: echocardiographers (heart), eco- encephalographers (brain), obstetrical/gynecological sonographers, and vascular technologists.

Successful completion of diagnostic medical sonographer academic work and clinical training. Length of training depends on level: certificate, associate, or bachelor's degree.
LicensureState-specific licensure;
American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) exam and registration.
At least two years of experience as Diagnostic Medical Sonographer in a clinical setting.
CredentialsCurrent CPR; and other health and screening tests as required by facilities/regulatory agencies; ARDMS registration.
EnvironmentVarious client facility settings; possible exposure to blood, bodily fluids, and other potentially infectious materials.
Representative Duties and Responsibilities- Complies with ATC policies/procedures.
- Complies with client facility policies/procedures.
- Ensures adequate stock of supplies and proper functioning of equipment.
- Provides patient services in a non-judgmental, non-discriminatory manner that respects diversity and patient autonomy, rights, and dignity.
- Maintains confidentiality of patient care and facility practices in accordance with HIPAA.
- Maintains competency by continuing education and meets state requirements, if applicable.
- Complies with ethical and professional standards of conduct.
- Reviews patient charts for relevant information and history.
- Determines test procedures according to purpose of examination and physician orders.
- Explains procedures to patients and assists with proper positioning for the test.
- Selects transducer and adjusts equipment according to test requirements.
- Enters required test data and patient information into the computer.
- Performs the actual test procedure and monitors ultrasound image quality.
- Records diagnostic data and produces a permanent record of test results.
- Recognizes potential critical findings and notifies the physician according to protocol.
- Responds to other patient emergencies per facility protocol.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
