Job Summary
The Kirkland Parks and Community Services Department is seeking Teen Recreation Attendants for the Kirkland Teen Union Building. This position performs miscellaneous clerical, registration tasks, minor maintenance and cleaning as needed. It may collect fees, maintain records, set up and take down equipment, tables and chairs, and may be responsible for opening and closing facilities and supervising customers when higher staff is off site.
The role is to provide outstanding customer service and assist in providing operational support to recreation programs, facilities, and events within Parks and Community Services. This position may report to Teen Recreation Leads, Program Coordinators, and/or Recreation Supervisors.
- Engage with teens during drop‑in hours
- Assist the Lead with programs, classes, and/or adventures
- Maintain facilities, Kirkland Teen Union Building and Peter Kirk Community Center
- Assist with events such as festivals or special events
- Assist with and monitor programs, adventures, activities, and events
- Prepare and distribute paperwork and supplies to program and event locations
- Set up and take down equipment for programs and events
- Greet and assist participants, staff, and the public in person and over the phone
- Report safety concerns and customer feedback to staff
- Perform miscellaneous clerical tasks
- Perform minor maintenance and cleaning as needed
- Perform basic computer functions and data entry
Skills and Abilities
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Good verbal, written, and telephone communication skills are required
- Ability to interact courteously with the public to acknowledge both compliments and complaints
- Demonstrated good judgement in problem solving and responding to customer needs
- Proficiency in standard computer software, such as Microsoft Office Suite applications Word, Excel and Outlook
- Education:
No minimum education requirements - Experience:
6 months working with youth
In place of the above requirements, the incumbent may possess any combination of relevant education and experience which would demonstrate the individual's knowledge, skill, and ability to proficiently perform the essential duties and responsibilities listed above.
Licenses and Other Requirements- Must be at least 16 years of age
- Must be able to lift and carry 40 pounds
Physical Demands and Working Environment:
Work may be performed in a variety of indoor and outdoor settings. Work settings may involve high levels of noise, many people, adverse weather conditions, uneven terrain, standing for extended periods of time, and interruptions.
