Fife Pride is dedicated to celebrating the LGBTQ+ community and promoting inclusion, diversity, and equality. Each year, we host a vibrant Pride event that brings together individuals, families, and allies to support and celebrate LGBTQ+ identities. Our organisation is run entirely by passionate volunteers who work together to create a welcoming and safe space for all.
Role Description
Trustees are volunteers who play a critical role in overseeing the governance and strategic direction of Fife Pride. You will ensure that the organisation is legally and ethically compliant, while providing input to help us grow and thrive. As we continue to develop and strengthen our governance, we are especially keen to welcome trustees who can bring additional expertise in areas where our current board has skills gaps.
Where We Particularly Need Additional Support
We welcome applications from people of all backgrounds, and you do not need previous trustee experience. However, based on our current board skills, we would particularly value applicants with experience in one or more of the following areas:
- Finance / Accountancy / Financial Management – including financial oversight, budgeting, forecasting, controls, reporting, and supporting organisational sustainability.
- Legal expertise – for example contracts, charity governance, employment matters, compliance, or general legal risk.
- Policy and legislation – understanding relevant legislation and policy environments that affect charities/events/community organisations (e.g., equality, safeguarding expectations, local authority processes, or sector compliance).
- Community/beneficiary insight – strong understanding of the communities we serve (through lived experience and/or frontline work), helping ensure decisions reflect real needs and experiences.
- Partnerships and external relationships – building and maintaining relationships with local authorities, community partners, funders, and sponsors.
Responsibilities
- Ensure Fife Pride is meeting its legal, ethical, and financial obligations.
- Work with all trustees to write, and confirm the Fife Council Service Level Agreement, and funding.
- Contribute to strategic decision-making for the long-term success of the organisation.
- Attend regular trustee meetings and offer advice on key issues.
- Help shape policies that align with our values and objectives.
- General control and management of the organisation in line with governing documents.
- Acting in the interests of the organisation i.e.:
- Ensure the organisation operates in a manner consistent with its purposes (in good faith)
- Act with the care and diligence that is reasonable to expect of someone who is managing the affairs of another person.
General Duties

- the organisation pursues its purposes with a firm strategic direction;
- all laws are complied with, including the organisation’s own governing document, policies and procedures;
- the organisation is protected from external threats;
- the assets and reputation of the organisation are properly managed;
- staff and volunteers are given what they need;
- the organisation remains financially solvent; and
- people are kept informed about the organisation’s work
Key Qualities and Experience
- Experience in governance, charity work, or leadership roles (helpful but not essential).
- Strong analytical and decision-making skills.
- Commitment to Fife Pride’s mission and values.
- Ability to collaborate and communicate effectively with a diverse group of people.
- Confidence to provide constructive challenge and support, and to act in the best interests of the organisation.
