SEMH Teaching Assistant
Location: Huyton (L36)
Start Date: February 2026
Contract: Full-time, Temporary (potential for permanent)
Pay Rate: £13.75 – £14.50 per hour (depending on experience)
Are you passionate about supporting pupils with social, emotional, and mental health needs? We are seeking a dedicated SEMH Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming and supportive school in Huyton. This is a fantastic opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of young people who need your care and guidance.
Job Description- Provide tailored 1:1 and small group support for pupils with SEMH needs.
- Assist teachers in creating a safe, structured, and nurturing classroom environment.
- Implement strategies to manage challenging behaviour and promote emotional well-being.
- Build positive relationships to boost pupils’ confidence and independence.
- Support learning and pastoral care in collaboration with teaching staff.
- Experience supporting children with SEMH needs (school-based or transferable).
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
- Ability to remain calm under pressure and manage challenging behaviour effectively.
- Empathetic, patient, and resilient approach to supporting pupils.
- Relevant qualifications (CACHE, NVQ, Psychology/Child Development degree) desirable but not essential.
Huyton offers excellent transport connections via M62 and A57, with regular bus routes and Huyton train station providing easy access to Liverpool and surrounding areas.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
