Role Overview
  • Safeguard children and promote their welfare through statutory assessment, planning, and intervention
  • Work with families experiencing complex challenges, including neglect and abuse
  • Deliver timely, proportionate, and child‑focused responses
  • Reduce risk and improve outcomes for children and young people
Responsibilities
  • Undertake statutory assessments under Section 17 (Children in Need) and Section 47 (Child Protection)
  • Develop, implement, and review child‑centred plans that promote safety and wellbeing
  • Manage a caseload of CIN and CP cases in line with legislation, statutory guidance, and local procedures
  • Identify, assess, and manage safeguarding risks effectively
  • Lead and contribute to Child Protection Conferences, Core Groups, and Strategy Meetings
  • Respond promptly and appropriately to safeguarding concerns and emergencies
  • Contribute to Public Law Outline (PLO) processes and care proceedings when required
  • Prepare high‑quality reports, assessments, and statements for legal processes
  • Attend legal meetings and court hearings as necessary
  • Work collaboratively with partner agencies including police, health, education, housing, and early help services
  • Share information appropriately to safeguard children and support families
  • Maintain accurate, timely, and analytical case records
  • Participate in supervision, training, and continuous professional development
  • Ensure practice aligns with legislation, statutory guidance, and Knowsley policies
Person Specification
  • Degree in Social Work (BA / MA / DipSW)
  • Registered with Social Work England (SWE)
  • Experience with in Children’s Social Care, particularly Child Protection and Children in Need
  • Proven experience of statutory assessments and safeguarding interventions
  • Court experience desirable, though not essential for all posts
