Overview
Performs semiskilled work in the care and repair of automotive equipment, and related work as required. Work is performed under the immediate supervision of the Fleet Maintenance Superintendent. Assisting with the repair and maintenance of automotive equipment; performing general custodial duties in the garage.
Responsibilities- Assists in the repair and maintenance of automotive equipment; hands tools, parts and materials to Mechanics as requested.
- Lifts, holds and carries parts; positions parts and uses tools as directed.
- Washes and cleans equipment.
- Lubricates machinery; changes oil and repacks bearings.
- Changes tires and repairs tubes.
- Participates in overhauling, repairing and adjusting gasoline and diesel engines, transmissions, electrical components, brakes, steering mechanism, pumps and hydraulic systems.
- Helps in cleaning garage and surrounding area.
- Performs related tasks as required.
- Some knowledge of the machines, tools, materials, parts and equipment used in the repair or mechanized equipment; some knowledge of the techniques and methods used in mechanical repair work; some knowledge of the principles of gasoline and diesel engines and of the electrical, hydraulic and mechanical systems on mechanized equipment.
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates.
- High school diploma or GED and minimal experience and some equipment maintenance experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Possession of an appropriate driver’s license valid in the State of North Carolina.
This work requires the occasional exertion of up to 100 pounds of force; work regularly requires using hands to finger, handle or feel; frequently standing and occasionally requires walking, speaking or hearing; climbing or balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling, reaching with hands and arms, pushing or pulling and lifting. Work has no special vision requirements; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word;
hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts, use of measuring devices, assembly or fabrication of parts within arm’s length, operating machines, operating motor vehicles or equipment and observing general surroundings and activities. Work has no exposure to environmental conditions;
work is generally in a loud noise location (e.g., heavy traffic, large earth-moving equipment).
