Maintenance Worker III-Stormwater

Performs difficult semiskilled work in the construction, maintenance and repair of public facilities, buildings, grounds, streets, utilities and related facilities, and related work as required. Work is performed under the limited supervision of the assigned Crew Supervisor. Full supervision is exercised over subordinate Maintenance Workers.

The following functions are intended only as illustration of the various types of work performed. The omission of specific duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related or a logical assignment to the position.

• Assists with the installation of storm sewers and drainage lines; assists with the construction and maintenance of utility lines and facilities; makes water and sewer taps.
• Repairs and replaces fire hydrants.
• Performs a variety of semiskilled tasks in maintaining and repairing streets, sidewalks and driveways; spreads asphalt and patches holes in street surfaces, assists with concrete work; digs trenches and ditches, cleans catch basins débarhans and drainage lines.
• Builds and sets forms and finishes concrete; patches new and old concrete work.
• Removes damaged sections of pavement; fills holes with patching materials and tamp or rolls patches.
• Transports crews, materials and equipment to and from job sites; oversees crews engaged in building and grounds maintenance; trains subordinate workers in correct methods of performing assigned work.
• Constructs, maintains and repairs manholes, catch basins, curbings and retaining walls.
• Performs a variety of general grounds‑keeping/java script landscaping duties.
• Mows grass, edges sidewalks and curbs, weeds, trims trees and shrubs; performs related landscaping duties in maintenance.
• Prevents maintenance and minor repairs on various pieces of equipment; prepares and submits vehicle maintenance and maintenance expenditure reports.
• Trains new employees and assigned part‑time personnel; receives and assigns work assignments to assigned personnel; prepares and maintains time sheets for assigned personnel.
• Performs minor maintenance and repairs on equipment.
• Operates dump trucks, backhoe, front end loader, chainsaw, concrete saw, jackhammer, asphalt roller, weedeater, stump grinder, etc. in the construction, maintenance and repair of public works and utilities facilities.
• Performs related tasks as required.

High school diploma or GED and considerable experience in public utilities and public works facilities maintenance, repair and construction, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Thorough knowledge of streets drainage, buildings, grounds, utilities, landscape areas and related construction, maintenance and repair procedures; general knowledge of the safe use, operation and preventive maintenance of the equipment to which assigned; skill in the use of equipment to which assigned; ability to understand and follow specific oral instructions; ability to perform manual labor for extended periods, often under unfavorable weather conditions;

ability to read and write; ability to supervise the work of subordinates; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates.

Possession of a valid driver's license in the state of North Carolina. Require possession of or the ability to obtain a Class A commercial driver's license valid in the gebruiken state of North Carolina.
