About the Position
About the PositionThe Kinnelon Public Library is seeking an energetic, creative, and community-focused Youth Services Librarian to serve children ages 6 and up. This position emphasizes dynamic programming, strong community partnerships, and leadership in youth-focused digital services.
This position will work collaboratively with our Youth Services Librarian who specializes in birth to age 5, ensuring seamless, developmentally appropriate services and a cohesive approach to youth engagement across all early and school-age years.
Key Responsibilities- Plan, develop, and present engaging programs for children and tweens (ages 6+) both in-library and off-site
- Collaborate closely with our Youth Services Librarian to coordinate services, programming, and outreach across age groups
- Serve as the primary liaison to local schools, homeschool groups, Scout troops, and other youth organizations
- Build and maintain collaborative relationships with educators, youth leaders, and community partners
- Lead and expand the library’s digital offerings for youth, including e-resources, digital literacy initiatives, and online programming
- Provide readers’ advisory, reference, and technology assistance to children and caregivers
- Participate in outreach events, library initiatives, and system-wide projects
- Stay current with trends in youth services, education, and digital engagement
Required:
- Master’s degree in Library and Information Science (MLIS/MLS) from an ALA-accredited program;
Candidates in the process of completing a Library or Information Science program at an ALA-accredited university will be considered - Experience working with children ages 6+ in a library, educational, or youth-focused setting
- Strong presentation and communication skills
- Comfort with digital tools, platforms, and emerging technologies
Preferred:
- Experience developing and delivering youth programs
- Background working with schools, Scouts, or similar organizations
- Knowledge of children’s literature and youth media trends
- Creativity, flexibility, and a collaborative spirit

Salary Range: $60,000-$65,000
