Position Summary

The Barista will provide an amazing guest experience by preparing beverages, serving ice cream, maintaining a clean workspace, and assisting Dockside restaurant with hot beverage service. The Ice Cream Shop crew is knowledgeable about the City Cruises Gananoque vessel operating schedule, the 1000 Islands and public amenities. The successful candidate will contribute to an unforgettable guest experience by delivering exceptional food & beverage service, following directions from direct supervisors, collaborating with peers, and performing assigned duties promptly and efficiently.

Duties And Responsibilities
  • Provide amazing hospitality to guests and coworkers as prescribed in our RESPECT Service System.
  • Report to work on time for all scheduled shifts, clock in/out appropriately, and manage personal break time.
  • Understand and follow all policies and procedures related to the crew’s role.
  • Maintain a neat, clean, and well-groomed appearance in accordance with appearance standards.
  • Brew coffee, scoop ice cream, and sell a selection of bakery items.
  • Develop and maintain knowledge of coffee and ice cream flavors to educate guests and colleagues.
  • Accurately take orders and enter items into the Point-of-Sale system, then serve the correct item.
  • Demonstrate basic math, cash handling, and comfortable using POS systems.
  • Interact with new and regular customers to contribute to a positive work environment.
  • Maintain a clean and sanitized workspace following all health and safety guidelines, including daily and weekly checklists.
  • Perform stock counts and submit inventory counts twice weekly to ensure proper inventory levels for reordering.
  • Other duties as assigned by the manager or supervisor on duty.
Requirements & Qualifications
  • O.S.S.D. or equivalent as recognized by the Ministry of Education
  • One (1) year customer service experience preferred
  • Safe Food Handling Certificate preferred
  • Energetic, enthusiastic, service-oriented and self-directed personality
  • Basic math and computer skills
  • Will be closely supervised; accepts ongoing training and shares best practices with crew
  • Strong verbal, written and interpersonal skills; knowledge of another language is an asset
  • Ability to understand and convey information to guests and coworkers
  • Service orientation – actively looking for ways to help others
  • Must be able to work extended hours in any weather; may involve early mornings, late nights, weekends and holidays
  • Must be available to work on all weekends during July and August, including major holidays
  • Ability to lift up to 35 pounds (16 kg); able to reach, bend, stoop, wipe, push, pull, move or lift
  • Non-slip footwear required; PPE provided as needed
